10 Horror Movie Sequels With ONE Great Scene
9. Mrs. Bathory's Bloodbath - Hostel: Part II
Hostel: Part II is a totally typical also-ran horror sequel, rushed out to capitalise on the unexpected success of the original but offering little in the way of fresh ideas.
As a result, it received well-earned Razzie nominations for "Worst Excuse for a Horror Movie" and "Worst Prequel or Sequel."
But Eli Roth's follow-up does at least boast one unforgettably gnarly death scene, when poor Lorna (Heather Matarazzo) gets kidnapped and wakes up naked, hanging upside down above an empty pool.
Moments later, a beautiful woman (Monika Malácová) enters the room, strips naked, and lays beneath Lorna, before grabbing a scythe and beginning to toy with her.
Soon enough, the woman slashes away at Lorna, causing her blood to drip down into the pool and cover the nude woman, who is clearly getting a certain sexual gratification out of all this.
Eventually she puts Lorna out of her misery by slitting her throat, causing the woman's nude body to be sprayed with even more of the red stuff, much to her delight.
Considering the naked psychopath is credited as "Mrs. Bathory," we can assume the character is an homage to prolific Hungarian murderer Elizabeth Báthory, who allegedly enjoyed bathing in the blood of virgins in an attempt to retain her youth. Nice.
It's a great scene - a discomforting combination of sexy and ultra-violent, and really the only thing in the entire movie worth remembering.
