10 Horror Movie Twists That Changed EVERYTHING
8. A Mission From God - Frailty
How many times have you heard a fictional killer say they murdered someone because a higher power told them to? The religious nut thinking he's fulfilling the will of God is a cliche that's turned up in plenty a B-movie slasher and terrible episodes of police procedurals on TV, however Frailty offered a surprisingly compelling twist on that tale.
Directed and starring Bill Paxton, the late great actor plays a father supposedly compelled to murder guilty people by God after receiving some kind of transcendent moment of spirituality. Understandably, this reasoning doesn't really fly with anyone trying to stop him, or his two sons Fenton and Adam. After all, even if he was hearing voices, why would God of all people want him to assassinate someone by axing them to death?
Eventually, Paxton's character is killed by Fenton, after seemingly going even more insane and claiming God has told him that his son will too become a demon.
This whole story is being told by Fenton to an FBI agent years after the fact, however at the end he actually reveals himself to be the other brother, Adam, and, moreover, also an agent of God. In this moment it turns out that everything the Dad said was actually true: he was being guided by a higher power to punish bad people and now with him gone, Adam has received the same "gift".
