10 Horror Movie Victims Who Were Actually The Villain
2. Angela Baker - Sleepaway Camp (1983)
Being described as a "by-the-numbers" summer camp slasher movie, it's easy to see why some genre fans turn their nose up at the idea of viewing Sleepaway Camp.
The idea had been done numerous times by 1983, and it's understandable that some fob it off as another Friday the 13th cash-grab. But I implore you, hold on and give it that second look.
The movie follows Angela, a shy withdrawn teen heading to camp with her cousin Ricky. Picked on because of her silence and social awkwardness, those tormenting Angela soon meet gruesome fates.
Sleepaway Camp does throw-in some misdirection as to who the killer is, but not a lot. The movie wants to seem obvious and to tell you that, yes, Angela IS killing her peers. But why...?
In a truly shocking reveal that has become the stuff of slasher legend, we learn that Angela is actually her brother Peter. Forced to live as his deceased sister by a deranged aunt, the finale sees the character catatonic, finally succumbing to years of abuse.
With this reveal in mind it is almost impossible to see the shy, silent Angela as a villain, but a child abused for years who finally snapped.
