10 Horror Movie Villain Replacements Fans REJECTED
4. Vilmer - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Next Generation
Similar to Ricky Caldwell earlier on this list, just because a character is entertaining to watch doesn’t necessarily mean they’re a good character. It’s undeniable that Matthew McConaughey gave an unforgettable performance in The Next Generation, but sadly it was the wrong kind of unforgettable and his agents didn’t want the Texas Chainsaw sequel to be re-released in 1996 out of fear for his acting reputation.
Says a lot, doesn’t it?
Whilst not replacing Leatherface, he acts as the replacement for Drayton Sawyer of the previous Texas Chainsaw Massacre films; being the head of the newly named ‘Slaughter Family’. Unlike Drayton, he exudes no menace, only mania and bizarre noises.
Hell, even Hoyt from the Texas Chainsaw remakes in 2003 and 2006 is far more threatening than Vilmer! It’s a too outlandish and too over-the-top performance to be taken seriously, not to mention he’s also part of the bloody Illuminati to top it all off.
All of the Texas Chainsaw sequels escalate in ridiculousness, but this one absolutely takes the cake. Or human limb in this case.
Acting like the drunk uncle who only shows up to family dinners once a year to talk about conspiracies that he read on Facebook, Vilmer is a sad caricature of everything that made the original Texas Chainsaw movie characters so frightening.
