Not everyone has to die for it to be considered a win for the bad guys. If there’s a bigger goal here then they can technically still win even if some people avoid the clutches of death.

That’s what happens in the newest TCM: the baddie wins on a number of fronts, conceding total wipeout - and we as the audience still lose because we watched the movie.

The plot sees a group of young people move into a deserted old town with intentions to gentrify it up real nice for all their yuppy friends to move in and create a cool, hip, vibing community out in the sticks.

After the group accidentally causes the death of an elderly resident (it wasn’t deserted after all), Leatherface goes on his rampage and slaughters most of them. In one semi-viral scene he even gets onto a bus and chops through a bunch of millennials, undeterred by the threat of being “cancelled” as his murder-spree is streamed live to Instagram.

Ol’ Leathery wins this one on several fronts: he avenges that dead old lady, he drives everyone out of the town (not that many of them were left alive anyway), and he gets a sick new online persona in the process.
