From Dusk Till Dawn, what a picture!
Robert Rodriguez's thriller doesn't even show its full genre hand until the mid-way point, with the first half of the movie unfolding as a relatively familiar - yet still terrifically entertaining - crime thriller.
The film's villain protagonists are bank robber brothers Seth and Richie Gecko (George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino), who end up taking hostage a pastor, Jacob Fuller (Harvey Keitel), and his family who are assuredly the "heroes" of the piece.
Yet that all changes when the brothers and the Fuller family arrive at the Titty Twister - a strip club in the remote Mexican desert, which they soon enough discover is infested with vampires.
This marks a major tonal and narrative shift as the Geckos and Fullers team up to fend off the bloodthirsty assailants, ensuring being held at gunpoint by a pair of human thieves is the last thing the Fullers are now worried about.
