Paul Krendler is not a monster like Hannibal Lecter, but it's tough not to hate this guy's guts. Ever since Clarice Starling has worked on the Buffalo Bill case, this corrupt agent has bent over backwards to make her life hell. After she closed the Buffalo Bill case, Krendler doubled down to ruin Clarice's career, even working with paedophile Mason Verger to get her suspended.

When Mason has Hannibal and Clarice kidnapped, he prepares to have the cannibalistic doctor fed to his boars. Once Hannibal frees himself and Clarice, he convinces Mason's physician to drop him into the boar pit, where he's devoured. At this point, Hannibal has the perfect opportunity to get away, but a good doctor's work is never done.

Because Krendler jeopardised the career of Clarice - who Hannibal is infatuated with - he too must be punished. Rather than giving Krendler a swift death, Hannibal surgically removes his skull and feeds him chunks of his own brain.

Since the story is seemingly wrapping up after Mason perishes, it looked like Krendler would suffer no repercussions for his despicable actions, which makes his demise far more satisfying.
