10 Horror Movie Villains With The Worst Motives
1. Zach Sanford - There's Someone Inside Your House
There's Someone Inside Your House wasn't a good book, and as a movie it was even worse. Its polished presentation and young adult intended audience screams 'Netflix adaptation', but its villain and his motivations might just be the most soulless part of the whole experience.
Zach Sanford is the wealthy kid in the neighbourhood, the son of Skipper aka. the"land baron of Osborne". Zach is angry at how crooked his father is as a businessman (and a bigot for good measure?), buying and selling farms and turfing families out on the street.
And that's about it for the motivations behind Zach and his killing spree across the film. After killing his own father, he explains how his crimes were designed to expose everyone's secrets and to get back at those who teased him for being the rich kid in town.
It seems hard to construct a motive that feels weak and overused at the same time, but There's Someone Inside Your House nails it. It makes no sense that Zach would turn into a serial killer just to reveal people's secrets, and his whole 'having everything actually makes me the victim' only presents him as a spoiled brat.
