10 Horror Movie Villains With The Worst Motives

2. Tommy Jarvis - Friday The 13th

There's Someone Inside Your House
Paramount Pictures

Behind Jason Voorhees, Tommy Jarvis is the most recognisable face from the Friday the 13th franchise. Having appeared in the three movies between parts IV and VI, he's become Jason's mortal enemy, with his depiction in Jason Lives being the closest we've come to seeing a true Hollywood-style hero across the series.

But, this heroic depiction wasn't always meant to be the case. After the first four films in the series, Paramount had intended for the franchise to continue with a new villain running across Crystal Lake.

What Paramount could never manage to pull off, however, was: why?

The idea behind Tommy becoming the big baddie for the franchise came from the young man being mentally scarred so much by the killing spree from Jason that the two's personalities began to merge together. It's that lazy and problematic trope of individuals who witness violence going on to become violent themselves again.

Not only is this backstory a major drop-off from the motives that fuel Jason Voorhees across the Friday the 13th series, but it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
