After going seven long years without a new Xenomorph story to latch onto like a facehugger, Alien fans are on the verge of being treated to a couple over the next 12 months.

First up we've obviously got the incoming Fede Alvarez-directed Alien: Romulus, with that promising-looking story set between the first two classic sci-fi horrors set to hatch in August. And following that big-screen bout of inevitably tense and shocking chaos, the Alien franchise will also be scurrying its way onto TV screens in 2025.

Written and directed by showrunner Noah Hawley, the mind behind FX's Fargo series among other things, COVID-19 and the SAG-AFTRA strike have led to numerous delays for the project. But it's now currently in the process of being filmed and is seemingly aiming for a release in the first half of next year, according to Hawley (via The Wrap).

In terms of what the story will entail, familiar faces from the franchise aren't said to be appearing, but it was revealed by FX chief John Landgraf to THR that it will actually take place on Earth towards the end of this century and before the events of the 1979 original movie. It's also been said that it will reportedly focus on the emergence of the Weyland-Yutani Corporation (via Deadline).

Sydney Chandler will star as Wendy in the show, a meta-human who is said to have the body of an adult but the mind of a child, and will be joined by the likes of Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, Kit Young, Adarsh Gourav, and the mighty Timothy Olyphant, reportedly playing a synth who will act as Wendy's mentor.

Prepare for many a chest to be gloriously bursted on all kinds of screens over the next year, folks.
