10 Horror Movies Audiences Walked Out On

4. The Blair Witch Project

Terrifier 2
Artisan Entertainment

The movie that spawned a thousand found footage rip-offs, the original Blair Witch Project had viewers petrified when it first released in 1999.

It's about three student filmmakers - Heather, Mike, and Josh - who are producing a documentary about a local urban legend and find themselves camping in a haunted forest with no means of escape.

Blair Witch's use of handheld, actor-captured footage was a breakthrough for horror cinema, though it was not the first film to use it. As a result of the shaky shots, many audience members reported feeling motion sickness when watching the film for the first time, which only added to the terror.

Some people even asked for their money back.

Whilst some viewers did make it to the end of Blair Witch (albeit a different colour to when they started it), a lot of them just couldn't deal with the shaky cam. They hadn't yet been overexposed to it by the Cloverfields and Apollo 18s of this world and it was just too much for their poor brains to handle.

That and the fact that this movie is incredibly creepy.
