10 Horror Movies Ruined By Listening To The Fans

7. A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master

The original A Nightmare on Elm Street did a fantastic job of establishing Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund) as a terrifying, all-timer horror movie antagonist. And while the second film introduced more playfully sadistic aspects to the character, it wasn't until the third, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, that Freddy truly let his campy freak flag fly.

It was Dream Warriors where Freddy famously quipped "Welcome to prime time, bitch!," while killing Jennifer (Penelope Sudrow) by shoving her head through a TV screen.

It's a scene that penetrated into the general cultural consciousness beyond the franchise's fandom, and with Dream Warriors' somewhat more humorous approach resulting in a stronger box office performance than the second film, New Line doubled - nay, tripled - down for the fourth.

As fans responded positively to the campier portrayal of Freddy, A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master turned him into an outright caricature, where he wears sunglasses and devours the souls of teenage boys on pizzas, because why the hell not?

Robert Englund's commitment to the role never wavered, but by giving fans an increasingly silly Freddy in the fourth movie and beyond, he also lost the majority of his scare factor.
