10 Horror Movies Ruined By Listening To The Fans

3. Scream (2022)

The fifth Scream movie brought the series roaring back to life, no question, and one of the big asks that fans had been clamouring for for years? Establish some honest-to-God stakes for the original three heroes, Sidney (Neve Campbell), Dewey (David Arquette), and Gale (Courteney Cox).

Up to this point, fans had long complained that Sid, Dewey, and Gale had impenetrable plot armour, and because they knew nothing would ever happen to them, it actively undermined each movie's suspense. But Scream 2022 filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett heard this loud and clear, and went out of their way to off one of the O.G. legacy characters, with Dewey facing his grisly demise at the end of the second act.

Unfortunately, though, in its quest to appease fans desperate for one of the old guard characters to perish, the movie lost sight of basic character logic, handing Dewey a spectacularly stupid death which saw him fall prey to the most basic slasher movie no-no.

That is, Dewey goes back alone to pop a cap in Ghostface's head, resulting in him getting easily overpowered and killed. Given that he's lived through this four times before, it made the character look profoundly idiotic in death, effectively performing a double-character assassination on Dewey.

Though the fifth movie has a lot going for it, the fact that Dewey was dealt such a dopey death ultimately made it a profoundly deflating experience and a bummer for all the wrong reasons.
