10 Horror Movies Set In Only One Location
6. Devil
Coming in hot from The Poughkeepsie Tapes creator John
Erick Dowdle, this one isn’t quite as brutal as his earlier effort, but don’t
worry—2010’s Devil still packs a campy, inventive punch in its short run time. Adapted
from an idea of M Night Shyamalan’s—which, if The Sixth Sense taught us
anything, means it’s probably actually nicked from Goosebumps—this flick sees a
set of characters trapped in a stuck elevator, only to discover one of their number
is none other than the eponymous lord of darkness.
So, just a slightly more awkward office interaction than the average Monday morning here at WhatCulture HQ.
What follows is a terrifically tense set of confrontations and double crosses as the viewer scrambles to work out which of these candidates is old Beelzebub, with the twisty script offering up both some brutal kills and cleverly integrated character backstory through its short runtime. Yes, the denouement is appropriately cheesy—after all, this is a film about the literal devil in an office elevator—but this tense and unpredictable effort is nonetheless one not to be missed by fans of single location horrors.
