10 Horror Movies Set On One Day Only

4. The Evil Dead (1981)

Cube Movie
New Line Cinema

Let’s go ahead and add a big name to this list by way of 1981’s original The Evil Dead. A classic cabin in the woods format, this film sees a group of college students come face to face with some incredibly dark forces when they head to rural Tennessee for a short holiday.

The film begins as they journey to their destination, with the majority of the unfortunate events occurring after they settle in for dinner. After they discover an ominous book in the cellar and an accompanying tape recorder, they manage to unleash an ancient evil upon themselves.

Pro-tip: if you find a cursed-looking book and a tape recorder that plays an ominous incantation, maybe just put it back where you found it immediately.

Over the course of the night the group suffer possessions, mutilations and assaults - not only from each other but at times from the very nature around them. It’s the absolutely quintessential cabin in the woods horror, that has gone on to inspire many a film in its wake. All this achieved in less than 24 hours!
