Signature Entertainment

This is the most recent film to be included, as it was only released in the UK on the 27th of November, but it is an essential horror movie if you love the medium and want something utterly original. The film is written and directed by Brandon Cronenberg, the son of David Cronenberg, and he clearly takes after his father, because this movie is frightening, original and full of fantastic imagery.

Possessor is a science fiction psychological horror that tells of an alternate 2008, where assassins possess people close to their targets and use them to carry out their hits. After their jobs are done, they commit suicide in their possessed bodies and return to their originals. The story centres on an assassin named Vox, who after a failed hit ends up trapped inside a fully conscious and confused victim.

The utterly complex and advanced concept is handled so well and never comes across as too convoluted to enjoy, and the world-building makes it easy to invest in the story.

Additionally, it features our very own Ned Stark. Sean Bean takes on a smaller role in this film, but brings a sense of gravitas to his minor position and adds some additional star power to the already packed cast.
