10 Horror Movies That Are Finally Happening

Beetlejuice 2 has FINALLY gone before cameras.

Even with 2023 being one of the most volatile and unpredictable years for box office in Hollywood history, horror is continuing to thrive, again confirming itself to be the most reliably bankable of all movie genres.

Yet though horror is basically a commercial sure thing, where endless sequels can be produced at low budgets for insatiable fans, getting them before cameras isn't always easy.

And that's absolutely the case with these 10 horror films, each of which have been in the works for years, and yet only now are finally coming together.

As for why it's taken so damn long? Perhaps the original cast have been too busy to appear in a sequel, maybe the filmmaker has struggled to amass funding for their daring project, or it just took longer than expect to cook up a (hopefully) worthwhile story.

Whatever the reason, these 10 anticipated horror movies are now finally happening, whether they're in pre-production and gearing to start shooting or are in fact already in the can.

After years and years of whispers, these horror films should all be out soon enough. Here's hoping they live up to the long wait...

10. Drag Me To Hell 2

It's almost been an entire 15 years since Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell hit screens and basically served as an apology for Raimi's prior film, the widely derided Spider-Man 3.

After years of working in the superhero arena, the deranged horror-comedy felt like something of a homecoming for the director - a campy, brilliantly crafted genre romp closer to the vein of his Evil Dead films.

In addition to critical acclaim, Drag Me to Hell tripled its $30 million budget at the box office, prompting whispers of a sequel which sadly never materialised.

But Raimi confirmed in a Reddit AMA earlier this year that Drag Me to Hell 2 is indeed in active development, and that his team at production company Ghost House Pictures are "trying to come up with a story that would work."

After all, the first film ended with embattled protagonist Christine Brown (Alison Lohman) being viciously dragged to hell, so would a sequel pick that thread up again - perhaps with the title Drag Me from Hell? - or tell a new story within the same universe?

Either way, if Raimi's directing the sequel will sell itself.
