10 Horror Movies That Are Way Better When You Already Know The Twist
1. Get Out
Get Out begins with Rose Armitage and her boyfriend, Chris, heading to her family home. Because Chris is black, he's worried he might suffer hostility from Rose's family. But when he meets them, he finds them to be extremely welcoming.
Over time, he realises why the Armitages were so eager to meet him. After they have Chris imprisoned and bound, he learns Rose's family are transplanting the brains of their elderly friends into younger bodies to cheat death. Worse still, Chris is to be their latest victim.
If you watch the movie again, you'd expect to spot a few moments that hint at this revelation. But Get Out doesn't have a few clues - it has dozens.
When we're introduced to Chris, he's smearing his face with white shaving cream, highlighting how the Armitages intend to turn him white. When Rose's mother tells Chris to stop smoking, it's so his body is healthier and more desirable when it's sold off. Rose eats cereal and milk separately to emphasise she doesn't mix white with other colours. The Armitages' friends arrive in black cars to symbolise their "driving" black bodies. When Dean Armitage tells Chris about the dangers of mould, he's warning Chris that he's going to be moulded into another person.
Come to think about it, there are so many clues, you probably need to watch Get Out about a dozen times to spot them all.
