10 Horror Movies That Aren’t As Bad As Everyone Says

6. Wrong Turn

Burying The Ex
20th Century Fox

Released in 2003, Wrong Turn is a film which has earned itself something of an unfair reputation in the years since its release.

Yes, the sequels are a string of increasingly gory, but also more comedic, slashers wherein disposable characters are offed in all manner of absurd and inventive ways.

But the first instalment of this series is not only more sparing and subtle in terms of onscreen gore, it's also more tense and scary than the later, sillier sequels.

More sparing in comparative terms, that is. It's still a damn gory movie.

And this hillbilly horror deserved more credit for reigniting the then-dead sub genre in early noughties, as it was one of the first films to pit cellphone wielding modern heroes against backwoods mountain men.

Buffy's Eliza Dushku makes for a compelling final girl and truly committed to the role, dislocating her shoulder during the shoot.

Meanwhile Entourage heroine Emmanuelle Chriqui and love-to-hate-him screen douche Jeremy Sisto provide perfect axe fodder support for this underrated gem of the sub genre. Why would anyone remakes The Hills Have Eyes after this?
