10 Horror Movies That Could Have Ended After 10 Minutes

9. The Visit

If you want a late plot twist that's so far out of left field that it'll give you whiplash, then M. Night Shyamalan is your man.

He is synonymous with plot twists and moviegoers know to expect the unexpected when watching his films. The Sixth Sense ranks at the top of his library and that reveal has held up over time, setting the bar high for a plot twist that's unexpected, satisfying, and doesn't feel like a cheap gimmick.

For better or worse Shyamalan financed his 2015 film, The Visit, himself in order to retain complete creative control. Since its release, the movie has earned a somewhat middling reputation of being just OK. It follows two young siblings on a visit to their grandparents house, grandparents which they have never met. Of course, things take a turn to for the worse as it's eventually revealed that Nana and Pop Pop aren't who they say they are.

The premise leaves a lot to be desired, and leaves the audience slightly bemused. Was there really no way that the kids couldn't have seen what their grandparents actually looked like? Their (relatively negligent) mother wouldn't show them a picture of who to look out for at the train station? Not only that, but the imposters are escaped mental patients with a history of violence, so is tracking them down not a priority for authorities? The stars had to align perfectly for The Visit's plot to play out the way it did, and it's hard to not believe that it all could have been avoided from the get-go.

Craig Pollock hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
