10 Horror Movies That Could Have Ended After 10 Minutes
3. The Ring
Western culture sometimes makes a habit of rebooting foreign films from all over the globe, bringing them to a wider audience and capitalising on the success of the source material. Unfortunately, it's often the case that these reboots are shameless cash grabs and fail to capture the essence of what makes the original so good.
Take 2002's The Ring, for example. It isn't a terrible film by any means and manages to deliver the story of the 1998 Japanese film in a clear enough manner, but it lacks the same scares and X-factor that sets the original apart. If you've got a choice between the two, take the original every time, but Gore Verbinski's adaptation will do in a pinch.
For those not in the know, the film revolves around a cursed videotape, which consigns those who watch it to death within seven days. Can you see where this is going yet?
Rachel is a reporter investigating the tape, and after watching it she begins to unravel the mystery behind it in hopes of finding an escape from certain doom. For those who haven't yet realised how the whole situation could be avoided, then there's no helping you.
What possible reason could anyone have for watching a tape that supposedly leads to your death? None. There's nothing that forces anyone to watch the tape and all the evidence points to the urban legend being true, so why take the risk? Don't watch the tape, it's really that simple.
