10 Horror Movies That Embarrassed Other Movies Released At The Same Time
9. A Quiet Place EMBARRASSED Bird Box
Premiering in spring 2018, A Quiet Place stars husband and wife actors Emily Blunt and John Krasinski (who also directed) as Evelyn and Lee Abbott. They must fight for their family's survival in a post-apocalyptic world stalked by blind monsters with a dangerously acute sense of hearing.
Based on the novel of the same name by Josh Malerman, Bird Box had the dubious honour of being released second, in winter 2018, and thus enduring many critics' and fans' unfounded claims of plagiarism. It stars Sandra Bullock as a woman in a post-apocalyptic world who must fight to keep her family safe from monsters who infect their beholders with an insatiable desire to die.
Trading on the essential faculties of sight and sound, the films make for easy comparison, without saying anything of the similarity of their setting, subject matter and story. But, while both deserve their accolades, A Quiet Place proves to be a cut above its main competitor.
The overall concept and execution of Bird Box is great, but is let down by thin and expository dialogue -- something that could never have been an issue for A Quiet Place, where extensive use of sign language and motion carry character interactions and dialogue. Innovative and bold, Krasinski's film left all its competitors peeking out from between their fingers.
