10 Horror Movies That Ended Too Soon

1. The Village

Two M. Night Shyamalan directed entries on this list may seem unfair but the once lauded director really has a habit of focusing so singularly on his last-minute twists that he doesn't stop to consider the emotional consequences and dramatic situations that could result from such revelations.

The Village is a perfect example of a film that does nothing with its earth-shaking reveal and comes out the weaker for it.

A blind member of a nineteenth century village, Ivy, ventures into the woods to find medicine for another dying villager.

She eventually stumbles upon an American park ranger and it's revealed that this is actually the early twenty-first century. The village elders set up the remote village in the 1970s to escape from modern life, and the movie ends soon after with Ivy and the rest of the village population still totally oblivious to this.

None of the characters are given the opportunity to truly grow or change from these stunning revelations. How would the villagers react to finding out that the elders have lied to them? What would the elders do in response?

The movie isn't interested in exploring these plotlines and seems to only be interested in its unique concept on a surface level. A longer runtime would have allowed a deeper dive into this world and its characters, preventing them from feeling as paper-thin as they do in the final product.
