10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2022

1. Crimes Of The Future

David Cronenberg's Crimes of the Future barely made $4 million at the global box office despite having a $27 million production budget and receiving praise at its Cannes debut. Although it's doubtful that even Cronenberg anticipated the film to be the year's biggest hit, the financial outcome is disappointing for the filmmaker's eagerly anticipated return to the genre.

In the movie, performance artist Saul Tenser (Viggo Mortensen) and his companion Caprice (Léa Seydoux) traverse a world where pain and disease have been eradicated. Strange new organs are present in Saul's body, which the two surgically remove in sexual and unsettling public displays. A government organization intervenes to steer humanity's new course when similar mutations start to appear in the people, including a little boy who can digest plastics.

Though his films rarely do well at the box office, the Canadian auteur has always had his finger on the pulse of contemporary problems regarding technology, sexuality, and identity. The general consensus among critics is that his return to the body horror subgenre perhaps succeeded to a degree, but it will hardly convert anybody who wasn’t already a fan.
