10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2022

8. The Invitation

The Invitation
Sony Pictures Releasing

Nathalie Emmanuel plays Evie in The Invitation, a story about a young woman who, after her mother dies, learns that she is related to a wealthy English family.

When Evie accepts an invitation to a lavish wedding at their estate, she discovers that her new family has some, shall we say, unusual tastes.

The movie received criticism for its predictable and slow storytelling, a dearth of effective shocks, and its failure to deliver on attempts to modernize the premise with allegorical themes, despite strong lead performances from Emmanuel and Thomas Doherty.

The Invitation deserves some credit for performing better at the box office than some of the other movies on this list. However, $26 million globally on a $10 million budget is still below the level of success a big studio like Sony anticipates, especially after accounting for marketing expenses.

Additionally, it received mostly negative reviews, with only 26% of the critics on Rotten Tomatoes leaving positive marks.
