10 Horror Movies That Flopped Hard In 2022
3. Studio 666
Even though Studio 666 had a little bit of that special B-movie atmosphere, it didn't quite reach the heights that some of its spiritual predecessors, like This Is Spinal Tap and Tenacious D, did.
The Foo Fighters relocate to a spooky home to create their latest album in a movie that lead singer and guitarist Dave Grohl has dubbed "Scooby Doo meets Spinal Tap meets The Evil Dead".
While touring the mansion, Grohl becomes possessed by a demon, forcing his band to figure out how to escape the devil's hands while also saving their own souls. Considering that BJ McDonnell, who directed the third Hatchet film, also directed this one, it is purposefully ridiculous, replete with cameos, and appropriately violent.
Studio 666 failed to generate any excitement during its opening weekend. With a $1.5 million opening, it left theatres with only $3 million in total.
On Rotten Tomatoes, there is an incredibly intriguing difference in crowd and critic ratings: an audience score of 80%, compared to 56% for the critics. That probably shouldn't come as a big surprise for a movie that is aware of exactly who its target audience is.
