The Borderlands (also known as Final Prayer in the US) is an underseen British found-footage horror which follows a group of three men who are sent to investigate an old church in the English countryside after a miracle was alleged to have occurred there.

This film keeps its action firmly grounded as the men work to determine just how authentic this miracle is. Aside from one frightening scene in which some locals burn a sheep alive, the crux of the terror lies within The Borderlands' eerie atmosphere.

However, events take a wild turn during the film's last moments when, after an exorcism goes wrong, the group are forced to descend into an ominous passage to look for their missing companion.

With skeletons of small children littering the floor, it's clear that something is deeply wrong with this place. As the characters venture further into the tunnels, though, the passage becomes narrower, with their exit blocked behind them.

In a harrowing twist, it's revealed that they've entered the stomach of a god-like being. Whether understood as a purely Lovecraftian horror or bleak religious metaphor, the image of them being agonisingly digested alive makes for one of the most disturbing endings in recent memory.
