10 Horror Movies That Go Totally Insane At The End

6. Malignant (2021)

Baskin Movie
Warner Bros. Pictures

After her abusive boyfriend is killed by a mysterious intruder one night, Madison (Annabelle Wallis) becomes tormented by frightening visions of that strange figure brutally butchering other victims. As she learns more about her past, she uncovers startling, long-forgotten secrets.

Beginning with a visceral cold open, complete with an over-the-top credits sequence, director James Wan makes it clear from the start that this film takes inspiration from the schlocky B-movies of the early-2000s. With a dollop of visual flair, some unexpected scares, and a compelling investigative plotline driving the action forward, Malignant makes for an entertaining, if strange, outing.

However, this film becomes even more ludicrous towards the final act, when it’s revealed that the villainous Gabriel is Madison’s evil conjoined twin, with old video footage showing his comically bizarre body melded to a young Madison. Cut to the adult protagonist in a holding cell, and the movie erupts into bombastic chaos as Gabriel takes control of Madison's body and proceeds to slaughter dozens of people in gleefully gruesome fashion.

Switching from investigative horror to body-horror action, Wan doubles down on his campy premise to deliver an unapologetically schlocky ending that horror fans adored, if only for its sheer absurdity.
