10 Horror Movies That Had TWO Incredible Villains
7. Sweeney Todd & Mrs. Lovett - Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street
Tim Burton's Sweeney Todd adaptation delivered one of his finest collaborations with both Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, who portray the two murderous villains at the heart of Stephen Sondheim's legendary musical.
Depp plays Benjamin Barker, an English barber who returns to Fleet Street 15 years after he was exiled to Australia by the corrupt Judge Turpin (Alan Rickman).
Adopting the moniker Sweeney Todd, Barker re-opens his barbershop and is driven murderously insane over his hatred of Turpin, teaming up with pie maker Mrs. Lovett (Helena Bonham Carter) to kill his customers and bake their remains into her pies.
While Todd is a sympathetic antagonist to an extent given what he's been through, he's still a murderer, while Mrs. Lovett's villainy is considerably less endearing given that she deliberately misled Todd about his wife's death so she could romance him herself.
Once Todd learns that Lovett's ruse caused him to accidentally kill his wife at the end of the movie, Todd shoves her into her own oven, cooking her to death, before allowing orphan boy Toby (Ed Sanders) to slit his throat.
Depp and Carter's respectively tortured and campy performances bring sizzling life to Sondheim's characters on-screen, confirming them as all-timer villains of both musicals and horror movies.
