From one remake to another now, this one concerns the 1958 Steve McQueen-helmed flick The Blob.

The story of a gelatinous being from outer space that consumes everything in its path, The Blob is one of the most parodied films in the horror back catalogue. There's rarely a movie with a drive-in cinema scene that doesn't feature some homage to this film.

Viewers almost got an updated version of the '50s standard with musician, director, and all-round freaky dude Rob Zombie in control.

Zombie - real name Robert Cummings (you can see why he changed it) - was attached to the project in 2009 and was set to deliver a darker version of the story. Based on concept art for the film, Zombie's Blob wouldn't have devoured humans but rather turn them into creatures resembling, err, zombies.

Guess he wanted to get his family some work.

This was not to be though, as Zombie would eventually leave the project. Con Air director Simon West was brought in as his replacement, but it was eventually shelved when producer Jack H. Harris died in 2017.

Who knows, maybe Rob will return to the idea one day? Unlike the film's monster, his idea seemed to have legs.
