10 Horror Movies That Keep Tricking Viewers
5. Feast
Rather than saving the most gobsmacking moments for the finale, some horrors switch it up by dropping their biggest bombshell in the opening. Which brings us to 2006's Feast.
Considering the story revolves around a bunch of pub patrons being terrorised by monsters, this horror-comedy sounds as generic as they come. Luckily, Feast is anything but.
When a badass literally named Hero appears in the first ten minutes and starts calling the shots, it's evident he's meant to be the protagonist. That's why it's a surprise when this so-called saviour gets his head chewed off 90 seconds later.
However, that's not the only time Feast goes against convention. Even though children tend to make it out alive in a creature feature, a kid here suffers the grisliest death. Later, when a character called Heroine takes control of the situation, it looks like she might lead everyone out to safety... before she's abruptly killed.
When Tuffy the waitress becomes too traumatised to fight, she seems like a lost cause. But during the climax, a title card appears, showing Tuffy's name being rewritten as Heroine 2, highlighting she's become the new protagonist.
Since Feast constantly sets up tropes only to discard them, it's impossible to tell what's going to happen next.
