10 Horror Movies That Never Got Better Than Their Opening Moments

Blade kicks off with one of the most righteous opening sequences to any comic book movie ever - a blood-soaked set-piece which assured audiences they were in for one wild, R-rated ride.

The opening sequence takes place at a bustling rave, where one poor reveller (Kenneth Johnson) learns that he's inadvertently wound up at a vampire rave - a fact made abundantly clear once blood starts raining from the ceiling and the ravers get their fangs out.

But before the vampires can make short work of the guy, the party is interrupted by the Daywalker, Blade (Wesley Snipes), whose mere presence causes most of the assembled mass to disperse.

Those who stick around, however, are summarily dismantled by the vampire hunter, using a variety of guns, bladed weapons, martial arts skills, and even an incendiary device.

It's an expertly crafted sequence that at once introduces the audience to the seedy vampiric underworld and establishes Blade as a fearful force to be reckoned with - all while barely saying more than a few words.

Blade as a whole is a good-but-flawed movie, but that opening scene is pure iconography in action. No matter what the MCU's upcoming Blade film ends up being, it'll struggle to compete with this phenomenal sequence.
