10 Horror Movies That Never Left You

4. Censor

This British mind-bender follows a film censor called Enid, who's tasked with rating obscene horror movies. While reviewing Don't Go in the Church, Enid notices one scene is suspiciously similar to the night her sister, Nina, went missing.

While watching a movie made by the same director, she notices the lead actress resembles Nina. Convinced Nina was kidnapped at a young age so she could be exploited in the film industry, Enid does everything in her power to save her sibling.

What makes Censor stand out is how effectively it pays homage to the video nasty sub-genre. The grainy and atmospheric cinematography is so reminiscent of 1980s horror, it feels like Censor was made during that era. The director's choice to incorporate real video nasties adds a chilling authenticity to the story (and is a real treat for veterans of the genre).

Although viewers are rooting for Enid to reunite with her sister, it's obvious her job and childhood has traumatised her, making her an unreliable narrator. As Enid's sanity is pushed more and more, it's impossible to tell what's real until the final twist, which hits viewers like a train.
