8. The Collection
Even though horror sequels are expected to ramp up the kills, the follow-up to The Collector took it to the extreme.
The Collection kicks off with a young woman called Elena arriving at a crowded nightclub with her friends.
As Elena makes her way through the building, she discovers a mysterious trunk in the back room that harbours the sole survivor of the previous film, Arkin. After opening the trunk, Elena activates an unknown mechanism. It's not clear at first what the machine does, but it's painfully obvious it spells bad news.
Moments later, it's revealed that the mechanism is attached to a giant thresher hidden in the club's ceiling. After Elena tripped the switch, the thresher turns on, causing the rotary blades to spin and descend on the dance floor.
Though several patrons see the death machine sweeping toward them, they're helpless to avoid their fate. Before anyone has a chance to react, the shredder eviscerates everything in its path, causing everyone it comes into contact with to explode in a bloody pile.
We didn't get to know these characters, but it's still pretty jaw-dropping to see them being shish-kabobbed in such a theatrical fashion.
