7. Dead & Buried
Dead & Buried revolves around a sheriff who investigates a slew of suspicious murders in the coastal town of Potters Bluff.
In the first scene, a travelling photographer called George arrives in the area to take scenic pictures. When a beautiful woman named Lisa encourages George to take a snapshot of her, he's happy to oblige.
After following her to the beach, the townsfolk ambush George and beat him senseless. Lisa takes pictures of the attack without batting an eyelid, even after they douse the poor photographer in gasoline and set him alight.
Despite suffering immense burns, George survives and is transported to a hospital. Lisa sneaks in while disguised as a nurse and prepares to inject George with poison. George's entire body is wrapped in bandages save for his eye, compelling Lisa to administer the injection by slamming the humongous needle into his eyeball.
It's horrifying to see George being burned alive, but it's worse in hindsight since you momentarily believe there's a chance he'll pull through. But once you recognise the nurse is the same wicked woman who orchestrated the attack, it's obvious George is about to meet his maker.
