10 Horror Movies That Really Needed A Better Villain
9. Scream 3
Scream 3 is the consensus-worst film in the hit slasher franchise, and that's in large part because it has the most convoluted and deflating killer reveal in the entire series.
As it turns out, Ghostface is a solo operator this time around - filmmaker Roman Bridger (Scott Foley), who reveals himself to be Sidney Prescott's (Neve Campbell) half-brother, born to Sid's late mother Maureen.
As for Roman's motive? It all comes back to his mother.
He attempted to reunite with Maureen four years prior, only for her to reject him due to the illicit nature of his conception, prompting him to stalk her and eventually goad Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich) into killing her for having an affair with his dad, with some help from Stu Macher (Matthew Lillard).
Basically, Roman was the catalyst behind the events of the first three movies - a rather contrived "It's me Austin!" retcon which didn't sit well with many fans.
Couple this with Roman being a relatively bland character and Angelina Tyler (Emily Mortimer) originally being a second Ghostface - a far more interesting choice, honestly - and it's tough not to see Scream 3's villain reveal as a massive damp squib.
