10 Horror Movies That Totally Screwed Characters

10. David Drayton - The Mist

The Mist Ending Thomas Jane
MGM

Unlike every other person on this list, The Mist's David Drayton (Thomas Jane) doesn't actually die - but he probably wishes that he had.

At the end of the movie, David and his fellow adult survivors decide that they've got no chance of surviving the current alien invasion, and rather than wait around to be devoured by the creatures waiting in the mist, they decide to enter a suicide pact.

And so, David uses his gun to not only "euthanise" his adult companions, but also kill his blissfully unaware young son Billy (Nathan Gamble), in order to spare him a more brutal death in the near-future.

A traumatised David ultimately runs out of ammo before he can blow his own brains out, though, and voluntarily enters the mist in the hope of a quick death at the hands of the monsters.

But at that moment a military convoy emerges through the mist, revealing that the army has found a way to combat the monsters, confirming that David basically just killed four people, including his own son, for no good reason.

It's as cruel a fate as has ever been afforded to a horror movie protagonist, really, especially as The Mist abruptly ends moments later with David screaming in agony. Savage.
