10 Horror Movies That Totally Screwed Characters
5. Randy Meeks - Scream 2
Randy Meeks (Jamie Kennedy) is pretty much everybody's favourite Scream character: a film-loving nerd who demonstrates a thorough self-awareness of the slasher movie scenario he ends up in...twice.
But because giving fans too much of what they want is apparently a bad thing, Wes Craven opted to kill Randy off mid-way through Scream 2, in unexpectedly brutal fashion as he's dragged into a van and stabbed repeatedly by Ghostface. In broad daylight, no less, with dozens of people passing by the news truck mere feet away.
Naturally, Randy's death didn't sit well with many fans, feeling that they'd been robbed of the true beating heart of the series, whose popularity certainly rivalled that of Scream's actual protagonist, Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell).
If you needed any further proof that Craven screwed the pooch by killing the series' best-loved character, he was awkwardly "resurrected" in Scream 3 via a posthumous videotape he left behind for his surviving pals.
This was really just a troll death to keep fans on their toes, even if that shock value wasn't really worth depriving audiences of the most entertaining presence of the first two movies.
