10 Horror Movies That Tricked You By Killing The "Main Character" Early

You'd think that surviving the events of Hostel would buy you a little good will with the writers.

Eli Roth's 2005 gore-soaked flick featuring a secret organization that makes their living from kidnapping unsuspecting tourists for the more twisted members of society to mutilate and murder, took levels of on-screen barbarity to horrendously graphic new levels.

Paxton and Josh are two college students abducted by said organization in the original. Josh is murdered in stomach churning fashion but Paxton eventually escapes (minus a few fingers) and takes revenge on one of the clientele who wanted to torture him.

A hero who fought back against a shadowy organization, facing impossible odds, and won? Who else could even be considered to be the main character in the sequel?

Sadly for Paxton, this line of logic was not at the forefront of the writer's minds. As the sequel kicks off, Paxton is revealed to be suffering from trauma as a result of the events of the first film, as he hides from the Elite Hunting Club with his girlfriend. She dismisses his paranoia, only to come down to breakfast one morning to find her boyfriend's decapitated corpse sitting at the table.

An absolutely shocking twist, and a thoroughly undeserved fate for one of the more quietly bad-ass horror heroes.
