10 Horror Movies That Tricked You By Killing The "Main Character" Early

The marketing from the makers of Scream 2 is what lands this iconic horror staple on this list.

Jada Pinkett was heavily promoted as a star of the 1997 sequel to the wildly successful Scream, which should have been warning enough in itself about her fate in the movie.

Pinkett plays Maureen Evans, a college senior attending a movie premiere with her boyfriend. Unfortunately for her, the movie they are attending, "Stab", is based on the events of the first Scream movie. Despite this ominous foreshadowing, Maureen appeared to be safe enough, surrounded by fans donning Ghostface masks in a packed out movie theatre.

However, when taking the role, Pinkett had asked for "the most horrifying" death in horror history and Wes Craven did his damndest to oblige her. Maureen's boyfriend is killed by Ghostface who then proceeds to pose as him and sit next to Maureen in the theatre. She realizes too late and is stabbed to death in horrendous fashion amongst her fellow moviegoers, who only realize what's happened once Maureen staggers to the forefront of the theatre, mortally wounded.

Fans were tricked in usual Scream fashion; a well-known actress taking on the lead of the focal character of the introductory scene, only to be brutally murdered before viewers had a chance to even blink.

Speaking of which...
