10 Horror Movies That Tricked You Into Rooting For The Monster

7. Hellraiser

There's one easy way to make the audience cheer on the monstrous baddie - put them next to an even bigger one.

Case in point, we have Hellraiser, where though Cenobite Pinhead (Doug Bradley) is the overarching antagonist, he's less outwardly malevolent than the murderous lech Frank Cotton (Sean Chapman), who even attempts to kill his own niece Kirsty (Ashley Laurence).

And so, when Pinhead rips Frank apart at the end of the movie, it's basically impossible not to pump your fist in the air with deranged glee.

But the film brings us all back down to reality a few moments later, when Pinhead reneges on his deal with Kirsty to spare her in exchange for Frank.

Pinhead ultimately double-crosses Kirsty and attempts to claim her too, serving as a slap on the audience's wrist and a reminder that as deserving of his fate as Frank was, the Cenobites are not worthy of our adulation.
