10 Horror Movies That Turned Out Nothing Like You Were Expecting
8. Mandy
Oh Nicholas Cage; the man, the myth, the legend!
Seeing this infamous actor in the leading role might tip some viewers off about how wacky Mandy will be. But damn, it goes even beyond what you're expecting.
The film presented itself in its pre-release advertising as a strange yet conventional revenge story with a dash of horror added for good measure. But that all changed once you discovered what Cage was up against - an unhinged religious cult and cannibalistic, demonic bikers, all of whom are hooked on hallucinogenic drugs. Um, okay.
Mandy turns into an unpredictably bat-s**t wild ride as it tugs along. The villainous bikers all gorge on highly potent LSD, and the cult is led by a deranged former musician who plays psychedelic folk music. Toss in a blood-drenched leading man who goes on a rampage whilst high on hallucinogens in there, and you've got a recipe for a movie best described as trippy.
Watching as the world turns from a peaceful Eden to an explosion of violence and wacky visuals, is indicative of the main character's journey. But, it also treats your expectations with the same respect as a toddler will an anthill.
