10 Horror Movies That Weirdly Made Characters Look Like Idiots

8. Laurie Strode - Halloween (1978)

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Compass International Pictures

Given that Laurie Strode survived the events of the Halloween franchise - with the help of a few slippery retcons, of course - it might seem silly to call her an idiot.

That is, until you remember that she could've theoretically ended Michael Myers' (Nick Castle) reign of terror all the way back in the very first movie.

In the film's climax, Laurie fends off Michael by stabbing him in the neck with a knitting needle and then taking possession of his knife. Once Michael falls down "dead," though, Laurie drops the knife because... reasons.

Inevitably, Michael recovers and again comes after Laurie with his trusty, reacquired blade, but she just barely manages to avoid being shish-kebabed in a closet by grabbing the knife and stabbing Michael, again incapacitating him.

But again Laurie drops the knife and leaves the area, and so when Michael rouses once more to attack Laurie, it falls to Dr. Loomis (Donald Pleasence) to make the save with his gun.

You could perhaps forgive Laurie for dropping the knife once out of sheer revulsion, but twice? When this seemingly unstoppable psychopath keeps getting up? Nah, that's just dumb.
