10 Horror Movies That Weirdly Made Characters Look Like Idiots

6. Kate Lloyd - The Thing (2011)

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Universal

The Thing's protagonist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has neon-signposted Final Girl vibes from the first moment we meet her - she doesn't underestimate the shapeshifting alien threat and is proactive in attempting to contain it.

Except that she doesn't follow her own advice in several instances.

Once Kate and the other team members at the Norwegian Antarctic research station realise what they're dealing with, Kate repeatedly tells the crew that they need to stick together, or in the very least, never venture off anywhere alone where they could be assimilated by the Thing.

Yet several times in the film's second and third acts, Kate does just that, whether visiting highly suspicious and unsecured areas on her own or, with a single other person who just might be infected.

Though Kate does ultimately survive the events of the movie, she took some seriously reckless risks for someone who otherwise seemed to have her head screwed on straight.
