10 Horror Movies That Will Make You Never Sleep Again

8. The Break-In (2016)

Deadly Blessing 1981
JD Productions

This one does need to be prefaced by saying it is extremely low-budget and definitely doesn’t quite match up production-wise to a lot of others on this list, but it’s the idea behind it that earns it a place.

Revolving around a couple expecting their first child, the film uses found-footage style to put a scary spin on a very normal setting. Our central couple have installed some security cameras following news of a recent string of break-ins in the area, and as we watch their regular life play out there’s always that subtle threat in the background of what we know must be coming.

It’s a slow burner, and what may for some be great atmosphere-building can read as boring for others. The real charm about this film, however, comes from just how normal everything is, right up until it isn’t. We are at our most vulnerable when asleep, and in a world full of threats we never know when one might come our way - even if we think we’re prepared and a few CCTV cams will save us.

As the film will show you, you can never be fully prepared.
