10 Horror Movies That Would Have Made Better TV Shows
5. Bird Box
In Bird Box, the world is invaded by interdimensional creatures who drive people to suicidal insanity. Because "the madness" is spread by making eye contact with these beings, most people survive by wearing blindfolds or obscuring their vision in some way.
When the sci-fi thriller landed on Netflix, it became the most popular original film on the streaming platform. Despite its popularity, it received mixed reviews, implying viewers were more interested by the premise than the delivery.
Even though the film was pretty faithful to Josh Malerman's novel of the same name, the story could work better if it was told episodically. With a series, we have more time to see how this invasion has shaped the world, how people have adapted, where the creatures came from, and why certain people aren't affected by "the madness".
But wouldn't it get boring to watch a bunch of people running around blindfolded every episode? Not at all. In the novel's sequel, Marjorie, we learn the creatures have evolved so they can pass on "the madness" through touch, forcing humanity to devise new strategies to survive.
