10 Horror Movies That Were So Unscary It Actually Hurt

3. The Wicker Man (2006)

Ill advised remake of the classic 1973 British chiller, director Neil LaBute and Nicolas Cage play a large part in robbing the film of the original movie's growing sense of unease and horror leading to its final terrifying climax. The original film had Christopher Lee dancing down the streets with a daft wig on. This still managed to scare us. There are absolutely zilch frights in the remake. And it was nominated for some very deserved Razzies. One thing about the remake that is terrifying is the fact that Nicolas Cage stated in 2012 that he wanted to bring the movie to Japan with his character as a ghost. Now that is positively horrific and shows us that Cage's head is up his own arse. Cage, in the movie is shambolic, pathetic and barely coherent. It must be the worst performance in his career thus far. There was absolutely no point in remaking the original - which is a virtually perfect horror film. There is no horror or scares at all in the remake which tampers with the original's plot to its detriment. Edward Woodward's character was a virgin needed for the sacrifice who had to go to Summerisle of his own volition. Cage is on the island due to some ropey latter from his ex-fiancee. The film loses its religious meaning and the terror that inspires in the viewer. In the remake, we are actively glad to see Cage put in the Wicker Man and burnt. He is just a bumbling oaf. Edward Woodward had his religious faith and strict morals right up to the point where he died. Furthermore the acting, script and direction do not conjure up any kind of scary atmosphere or even emotional involvement in the film. Horror film fans, do not watch this film. Even out of curiosity. It is so unscary it will have you in wild contortions of pain cursing the births of Neil LaBute and Nicolas Cage!
