10 Horror Movies Where An Actor Plays Multiple Characters

Jeremy Irons is an incredibly well-respected British actor, so a challenge like playing two characters in one movie is the kind of thing he probably revels in. Sprinkle that with the talented directing hand of David Cronenberg, and you've got yourself a horror movie with some real weight to it.

Dead Ringers is a deeply visceral and compelling character study of a pair of twins known as the Mantles. These two (played by Jeremy Irons, of course) are gynaecologists, and they have a careful balance between them. On the one hand, you've got Elliott, the more confident of the two. He's suave, nihilistic and great with the ladies. On the other hand is Beverly, the shy, awkward, introverted twin.

This pair have a little operation together, wherein Elliott seduces women, and once he tires of them, Beverly steps in to fill his place. But, after Beverly falls in love with their latest conquest, things get complicated.

Irons embodies both characters so distinctively that it really feels like you're watching twins on the screen. As the story gets darker and more thematic, it becomes clear just how much work he put into the roles.
