Escape rooms have really skyrocketed in popularity this last decade, haven't they?

The concept of being locked in a room and finding clues to free yourself originated in Japan in 2007 and, in the years since, has become one of the most popular forms of collaborative amusement games in the world. And, what happens when something gets popular? The horror movie genre comes biting at it!

As you might expect, this movie follows a collection of strangers who are invited to attend an escape room event. There, they are forced to partake in increasingly deadly mystery rooms, with tension, violence and action around every corner.

This is one of those movies that does exactly what it says on the tin. It's got a fun concept and fills its runtime with compelling suspense and enjoyable puzzles. You won't find anything that will change your life, and the egregious sequel baiting will likely spoil the film's climax for you, but it's still an easy movie for a good night-in.

The sequel (Escape Room: Tournament of Champions) is more of the same, albeit a little more convoluted, so there's more to enjoy if you like this one.
