10 Horror Movies Where The Characters Are All Complete Strangers

It doesn't get much simpler than this. Take a bunch of characters (nine, in case you didn't already guess), lock them in a house together, force them to play a game until only one is left standing, and fill it with nasty kills and gore. It's hardly the second coming of The Shinning or anything like that, but it's the kind of popcorn fun any horror fan can enjoy.

House of Nine shows as nine strangers are drugged, kidnapped and forced into a house, wherein they are told the last surviving member will win $5 million in cash. From there, the ensemble cast introduce themselves, unravel, and eventually turn on each other - as you would expect.

There's plenty of fun to be had in the casting here, with Dennis Hopper playing a bombastic priest, Peter Capaldi as a creepy weirdo and Kelly Brook chucking out a decent turn as the leading heroine. The ensemble is varied enough to feel engaging but has plenty of characters you won't mind biting the bullet.

Speaking of death, while it takes a while to get to the good stuff (i.e. some violence), it goes full-on once it gets there, with some visceral kills that are - mostly - grounded in reality.
